Eating My CSA

Using the vegetables from my CSA share

The first share – always a red letter day!

On Saturday, we received our first share of vegetables from Barr Farms. Below is a list of our haul . . .

  • Strawberries – 1 quart
  • Green Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Shitake Mushrooms – about 1 pt
  • Bok Choy – 1 head
  • Boston Bibb lettuce – 1 head
  • Arugala – 1 bag
  • Mixed baby greens (beet and collard) – 1 bag

We also purchased one pound of honey from another farmer at the market.

I like having the pickup on Saturday. Our previous farmer offered pickup on Wednesdays, which is smack dab in the middle of the work week. Usually at that point I have no energy to be creative with the veggies. By picking up the share on Saturdays, I can spend some time planning on what to do with them!

Yesterday, we made the filling for Rolled Chicken Sandwiches with Arugula and Parsley Aioli. It will be a nice feature for lunch during the week.

This morning, we made omelettes with shitake mushrooms and green garlic from the farm. I sauteed the mushrooms and garlic in olive oil before putting them in the omelette.
